What is a Caesarean scar ectopic pregnancy?

Uterus_edited.png

In Caesarean scar ectopic pregnancy the gestational sac implants within a previous caesarean scar in women with a history of caesarean delivery.

The incidence of Caesarean scar ectopic pregnancy is reported as 1 in 1800 to 1 in 2500 pregnancies, but it is predicted to increased given the global increase in caeasarean deliveries.

These ectopic pregnancies are associated with significant maternal and fetal morbidity. Unfortunately, the diagnosis and treatment remains challenging as there is a lack of high-quality evidence regarding what the best treatment option is.
